Sectioned Time – 2
Machined bog oak, unique silver gelatine print, powder-coated hexagonal plinth, steel insert (150cmx50cm) 2023
Three sections of lathe turned 5000-year-old bog oak are bored out to reveal the tree’s central core.
Silver fusion-ed paper (exposed to 5000-year-old starlight) is cut into disks and inserted inside exposed boreholes.
The disks act as reflectors and the piece can be revolved on its stand, revealing the 360-degree interior growth rings of a long dead prehistoric tree.
15 seasons are thus illuminated by a mirror like surface sensitised by photons emitted from the same time (in earth years) when the tree was alive on earth.
